I'm 80. If You're in Your 50's, Watch This (Life Lessons From The Elderly)
At the time of doing this video, I'm 80 years old and if I could go back and talk to my 50 year old self and give me some advice, here's what I would say. Learn how to be bored without distraction. It's a superpower in modern society. Cut off all energy and happiness vampires from your life. Be ruthless about who you spend time with. Worrying is wasted energy. It will never make a problem better.
Sleep is the best legal performance enhancing drug on the planet. A goal is a destination. The steps to attain it are your gps. Focus on the steps, not just the goal. If someone drains your energy, take it as a signal to not hang around them. The less you care about what others think, the more peaceful you will be. Cherish every moment with friends as if it were your last. Your diet consists of not only your food, but also the information you take in and the friends you hang around.
Exercise is the most underutilized antidepressant and food is the most abused drug. Spend quality time away from your phone daily. A great life is lived outside, not in front of a screen. Choose your habits and vices wisely. The older you get, the harder they are to break. Get the most important tasks done at the beginning of the day. This is called eating the frog.
Invest in better rooms, masterminds and conferences. This is one of the best ways to build your network. Choosing your partner in life is the most important decision. Avoid basing it on looks alone. Learn how to invest to turn your dollars into more dollars. The foods you eat affect your gut, and your gut affects your brain. Improve your food quality.
Forgive your parents. They did the best they could with what they were taught. Save at least 10% of what you earn, regardless of debt. To feel more secure. Feeling uncomfortable means you're growing. Embrace it. Hire mentors or coaches as fast as possible. They will get you from point a to point b faster than any book or course. Get married and have kids on your own timeline, not anyone else's.
Your brain is a piece of software upgraded by reading, learning new skills, and choosing the right people. Ignore lists that say you should be doing certain things by 30, you have your own timing. Get your body to a level where food and pharmaceutical companies cannot profit off you. Self pity and arguing for your excuses are signs of learned helplessness. Avoid these at all costs.
What you measure is what you manage. If you want to get better at anything, you must track it. As you level up, your friends will change. Accept this. Get 8 hours of sleep taking a 30 minutes walk in nature is better than any health guru on the planet. Write a vision for your life. Break it into goals and turn them into actionable tasks.
Life is too short to not live in a place that suits your personality. Sleep is more important than food. Without sleep, you become the worst version of yourself. Your body is a piece of hardware. Upgrade it through cardio stretching and lifting. When you're young, live in cities for opportunities. When you're older, live in small towns for peace.
The things you want are on the other side of facing your fears. A good life is never a comfortable life. Always pay off your credit card at the end of each month to avoid financial frustration. Dont take advice at face value. Test it out in your life. If it works, great. If not, discard it. Live life according to your rules. Not your parents, not societies, and not some random persons online.
If you want better results, find better friends. This doesnt mean you have to get rid of your current friends, but level up. You will see a massive divide between the people who took care of their bodies and those who didnt. Happiness is not something you postpone for the future. It is something you design for the present. Trust takes years to build, seconds to break and forever to repair.
The truth is that maturing is realizing that a relationship can always work out and always be fixed, no matter the situation. Be careful how you talk to yourself because you are listening. Private life always wins. Keep it secret until you win. Sometimes you need to burn bridges to stop yourself from crossing them again. You might not enjoy discipline, but youll enjoy the results.
Today is the oldest you've ever been in your life and the youngest you'll ever be again. Stop thinking you're doing it all wrong. Your path doesn't look like anybody else's because it can't. It shouldn't and it won't. Never tell anyone about your problem. 90% of them don't care. The remaining 10% are even happy to hear this.
When the hounds come after you, send in a wolf. When a wolf comes after you, send in the hounds. Never express too much love, affection or care to someone because its human tendency to underestimate anything thats free of cost.
Two things are infinite, the universe and the human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe. The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity. When someone walks away from you. It's not the end of your story, it's the end of their part in your story.
We become what we think about most of the time. And that's the strangest secret. A man without a vision for his future always returns to his past. Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own. Tomorrow belongs to the one who prepares for it.
Be like the flower that gives fragrance even to the hand that crushes it. Time can feel slow right now. But one day it will seem like a million years have gone by in a blink. Know the rules well so you can break them effectively. We all must suffer pain. Either the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. People say nothing is impossible. Yet I do nothing. Every day.
You all laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same. The true wisdom is knowing that you don't know when people disrespect you. Be strong enough to walk away. Wise enough to forgive and brave enough to stand tall. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy. Dont let someone elses disrespect diminish your self worth. People may disrespect you, but it is up to you to decide if it will affect you. Disrespect is the weapon of the weak. Your value doesnt decrease based on someones inability to see your worth. Rudeness is a weak imitation of strength.
Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option. Pain of regret is so much worse than pain of discipline. Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone. Don't practice until you get it right. Practice until you can't get it wrong. The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists.
Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. A tiger doesn't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep. Never let the odds keep you from doing what you know in your heart you are meant to do. No work is beneath you. The only thing that should be beneath you is your big ego.
Work hard in silence and show your skills at the job you get rather than criticizing the job. No matter how many times I may stumble, I will rise each time a better man. The most important step a man can take is the next one. It's always the next one. Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle. And its life will not get any shorter. Happiness doesn't diminish when you share it.
At first. You choose a partner based on appearance and enjoy it until you realize that your children will be raised not based on appearance but based on values. If you expect the world to be fair with you because you are fair, you're fooling yourself. That's like expecting the lion not to eat you because you didn't eat him. Dont tell anyone what you think or what you know.
Keep your secrets to yourself because a friend today could be an enemy tomorrow. Every person in your life is a teacher. Some bring lessons about love and support, others teach you what to avoid. Dont compromise your health to make money. You will end up spending money to recover your health and thats not worth it.
75% wont care and 25% will be glad youre going through bad times so keep them guessing. Wealth is never too much. Just respect the almighty with your money. Help the poor and needy.
